William R. Shaw brings a unique blend of public service and private representation of clients to his practice of law. He offers experienced civil and criminal litigation with practical and extensive advice and counsel in commercial transactions, business and personal legal affairs.
Bill Shaw was born and raised in Ithaca, New York and resides with his wife in nearby Trumansburg, New York. His education includes undergraduate, masters and doctorate degrees from Cornell in government, public administration and law.
Bill Shaw is admitted to the Tompkins County and New York State Bar Associations. He's a long-term member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and active in local community affairs.
Bill Shaw concluded a decade of public service in Washington, Albany and his community with a term of Mayor of the City of Ithaca in 1982-83.
Mr. Shaw is admitted to practice in New York State and it's Federal District Courts. He's also certified as a federal court Mediator for the Northern District of New York. He also served as a Hearing Examiner for the NYSOC&FS. Bill Shaw has appeared in eight or more county courts, NYS Supreme Courts, the appellate division during over 20 years of private practice. He has also appeared in federal court trials and pretrial proceedings.
Mr. Shaw has also represented clients in real estate matters involving single lots and large subdivisions; commercial ventures in six, seven and eight figures.
Bill Shaw relies on training and experience with computer and software to expedite research and preparation of legal papers, as well as to communicate with clients, adversaries and courts.
Mr. Shaw's background and experience in personnel and employment discrimination has lead to twenty years of active practice for employers and employees in the complex area of Employment Discrimination. His work has included the NYS Division of Human Rights, USEEOC and federal litigation and jury trials. Referrals and court appointments in this field have come from Syracuse, Binghamton, Auburn and Elmira.
