Emerson Mitchell was born in Lansing, New York and has lived in Ithaca with his wife and children in since 1998. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science. During his attendance at the University of Rochester he maintained Dean's List and Honor Roll during all semesters, and by Dean's nomination, was published in Who's Who of American College Students.
Emerson Mitchell graduated magna cum laude from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University in 1998. During that time he was employed by Legal Aid of Central Michigan as a legal assistant working in areas of domestic relations and landlord tenant law.
Prior to attending law school, Emerson Mitchell spent six years as a co-owner of a commercial-industrial photographic studio in Rochester, New York.
Emerson Mitchell is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and has been a law clerk and then attorney affiliated with Shaw Law Firm. He is currently a member of the Third Department Law Guardian Panel and the Tompkins County Advisory Board for Indigent Representation.
While his general areas of practice include criminal defense, civil litigation, corporate and estate, his areas of concentration are family, domestic relations and landlord-tenant law.
