Natanya DeWeese joined Shaw & Murphy in July 2015 and has been a Member of the firm since September 2021. An Ithaca native, she graduated with honors from Cornell University in 2009 with a degree in Policy Analysis & Management and from Cornell Law School in 2012. While in law school, Ms. DeWeese served as the Managing Editor of both the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy and the Legal Information Institute Supreme Court Bulletin and was active in the Ithaca legal community through the Tompkins County Department of Social Services and the Ithaca City Prosecutor's Office. After graduating from law school, Ms. DeWeese clerked for the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, Fourth Department in Rochester, New York, where she worked on criminal, civil, and Family Court appeals. After her clerkship, Ms. DeWeese worked in private practice in Rochester, specializing in personal injury and insurance defense.

At Shaw & Murphy, representing college students in campus discipline proceedings, including Title IX, at Cornell University, Ithaca College, and Binghamton University, is a significant part of Ms. DeWeese's practice. She also represents students in complaints against colleges for their handling of college discipline proceedings with the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, including a successful challenge on the ground that the college discriminated against a male student in their handling of a Title IX proceeding against him.

Her practice also includes family law, matrimonial, criminal defense, residential and commercial real estate, estate planning, estate administration, civil litigation, personal injury, corporation/LLC formation, not-for-profit and Greek organizations, and employment law.
